Dr. Lisa Henkel Lauded for Excellence in Education
Lisa Henkel channels years of experience into her work with Pathways To Academic Excellence
VOORHEESVILLE, NY, December 6, 2023, Lisa Henkel has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Henkel presently excels as the chief executive officer and founder of Pathways To Academic Excellence, (a New York State certified Minority and Women Owned Business), through which she specializes in supporting educational leaders in the continual improvement change process offering leadership coaching in all areas of continual school improvement such as building relationships, creating cultures of continual improvement, analyzing and using multiple data sets, aligning curriculum and instruction to standards-based grade level expectations, academic equity, and maximizing time and teacher collaboration.
In addition to her work with Pathways, Dr. Henkel serves as an independent consultant supporting the New York State Department of Education where she serves as a school support partner coaching school leaders and leadership teams. She is highly regarded for her impactful technical assistance and leadership coaching where she is known for her effective, differentiated approach based on the school and leader’s circumstances and current practices, as well as her hard work and enthusiasm in motivating others. Dr. Henkel has served as a senior director of school and district support for the National Center for Time on Learning where she worked alongside state, district, and school leaders to coach and support schools to increase the quality and quantity of learning time for all students and collaboration time for teachers. Additionally, Dr. Henkel served as an educational coach for the International Center for Leadership in Education/Successful Practices Network where she coached schools and leaders in their improvement efforts relating to lesson planning with high rigor and relevance.
During the early stages of her career, Dr. Henkel honed her skills in implementing and evaluating curriculum and instruction, making data-driven decisions, facilitating strategic planning, and budgeting with fiscal responsiveness as a teacher, principal, and superintendent with upstate New York school districts such as the North Colonie Central School District, the Voorheesville Central School District, and the Wynantskill Union Free School District. Due to her breathe of knowledge, she authored a dissertation entitled, “Building Teacher Capacity: Staff Development, Socialization, and Receptivity to Change.” Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Henkel aligns herself with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the UnboundEd Ecosystem.
An expert in her field, Dr. Henkel earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Plymouth State College. Subsequently, she received SDA, SAS, CAS certifications, a Master of Science in Educational Administration and Policy Studies, and a PhD in the same disciplines from the University of New York, Albany. In recognition of her professional accomplishments, she has received numerous Board of Education commendations. Additionally, Dr. Henkel has served as a trustee of the Board of Education for the Voorheesville Central School District as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Voorheesville School and Community Foundation.
Dr. Henkel attributes her continued success to building strong relationships, establishing safe environments to discuss areas of improvement, and the ability to reflect on all experiences, learning from things that worked as well as from those that didn’t. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in her family where she and her husband David have raised two wonderful young men who are Division I collegiate athletes.
